Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Diabetic Retinopathy caught early can be treated for as little as $800.
Diabetic Retinopathy caught in later stages can be treated for around $11,000.
Diabetic Retinopathy not caught at all will result in blindness. There are no symptoms so early intervention is best.

Cost and Computer:
  1. The RV100 is offered at $4,995. No additional hardware is required and you may use any existing computer for transmission of tests to the network. It comes with a one-year enhanced warranty. For an additional $495 (per year), you can also add 'drop protection' which covers accidental physical damage.
  2. The TRC Desktop is $20,537 & includes a dedicated laptop which is necessary for transmission of tests to the network. Includes Device, Laptop, Table, Install, Training.
Portability:
  1. The RV100 is truly portable and, therefore, would either facilitate sharing among multiple locations, or better yet, would allow for the purchase of one per location at similar overall costs.
  2. The TRC Desktop requires a dedicated space in your office (approx 2ft x 3ft minimum) as well as a power outlet
Patient Testing:
  1. The RV100, being a handheld device, would require individual training as it requires proper positioning over the patient's eye. Ample training will be provided at no cost.
  2. The TRC Desktop is fully automated and requires no particular dexterity skills - this is the primary strength of the desktop unit.
Image Quality & Professional Services:
  1. Both devices offer equivalent diagnostic image quality and are encrypted and transmit across our HIPAA Compliant network to be read by a retinal specialist.
  2. Both devices automatically and immediately determine image quality so the user can be assured that their test is readable.
  3. Both devices utilize the same network of retina specialists and incur the same $25 per test fee. You will never pay for a test which is deemed 'unreadable'
  4. Both devices provide a secured web-portal for you to access tests and can be separated by location if so desired
Reimbursement:
  1. The national average reimbursement for this service is $75/exam, with 92250 being the code most often accepted by health plans. Clinics should verify codes and rates with their payers.
