The Shoveling Work Station is a work hardening tool that simulates repetitive shoveling motions in a safe, supervised environment. Measuring 36" W x 72" L x 60" H, this work station has three angled shelves and a broad base that catches sand, gravel, or soil (sand is recommended).
Patients using this station can scoop up material placed in the ground-level compartment and raise it to one of the three shelf heights build into the stations backing. Patients shovel material into a chosen shelf, and the material travels back down into the base for continued use.
Shelf placement at multiple heights allows for a broad range of reach, and gives patients a way to work on dynamically strengthening the shoulders, legs, and back at various angles.
Physical and vocational therapists who do work hardening evaluations and carry out subsequent treatment programs will find this a unique tool for simulating actual work experience in a variety of occupations.
For physical and rehabilitation therapists who facilitate work hardening, this unit is a compact, easy to understand tool that simulates range of motion work for particular occupations, and allows patients to rebuild strength to perform well on the job.
